O-Rings

O-Rings

O-Rings are circular elastomer seals installed in a machined groove to prevent the leakage of liquids or gases between mating parts — providing reliable static sealing for flanges, covers and housings, as well as dynamic sealing for reciprocating rods, pistons and plungers, while keeping gland design simple and compact.

Lycotek’s O-Ring range covers elastomer O-Rings in NBR, HNBR, FKM, CR and EPDM, four-lipped X-profile rings in NBR and FKM, flange seals in PU, and PTFE back-up rings — delivering static, reciprocating, oscillating and rotary sealing from -55 °C to +200 °C and from 0.74 mm to 658.88 mm, in line with AS 568, ISO 3601, GB 3452.1 and JIS B 2401 size series, with flange seals rated up to 500 kgf/cm².

Product Types

1. Elastomer O-Rings — The Most Widely Used Static and Dynamic Seal

Lycotek OR | NBR / HNBR / FKM / CR / EPDM | Temperature -54 °C to +200 °C

O-RINGS

· Versatile sealing solution — circular elastomer profile seals liquids and gases in static, reciprocating and oscillating applications across hydraulics, pneumatics, automotive, food/medical and aerospace systems.

· Extensive material range — more than 200 rubber compounds available, with standard grades covering NBR, HNBR, FKM, CR and EPDM in 70–90 Shore A, for mineral oil, water, HFA/HFC fluids, refrigerants, steam and weak acids.

· Global standard interchangeability — dimensions supplied to ISO 3601, AS 568A, GB 3452.1 and JIS B 2401, allowing direct replacement in existing grooves.

· Low hardware cost — simple circular groove geometry keeps gland machining economical and installation straightforward.

Typical applications

· Hydraulic and pneumatic systems, lubrication systems, food/medical equipment, aerospace, drinking-water systems and automotive.

· Common media include mineral oils, water, HFA/HFC fluids, refrigerants (e.g., R134a, R410A), steam, vegetable oils and weak acids, depending on material grade.

2.Four-Lipped X-Profile Rings — Anti-Twist Upgrade for Reciprocating Sealing

Lycotek OX | NBR / FKM (70 Shore A standard) | AS 568 sizes

X-Rings

· Avoids twisting in the groove — the four-lipped X-shaped cross-section resists rolling and twisting during reciprocating movement, reducing leakage risk in pistons, plungers and rods.

· Low friction with high sealing efficiency — improved pressure distribution across the sealing profile gives effective sealing while keeping friction low; lubricant reservoirs between the lips improve start-up.

· Mould line away from sealing lips — the parting line lies in the trough between the lips, not on the dynamic sealing surface, minimizing local leakage and wear.

· Direct drop-in for AS 568 grooves — supplied to the American O-Ring Standard AS 568, so existing O-Ring grooves can be upgraded without redesign.

Typical applications

· Dynamic sealing of reciprocating pistons, rods and plungers; also oscillating, rotating or spiral movements on shafts, spindles and rotary feedthroughs.

· Static duties as radial-static seals for bushings, covers and pipes, and axial-static seals for flanges, plates and caps.

· Anti-twist energizer element for elastomer-energized hydraulic seals where O-ring rolling is a risk.

3.PU Flange Seals — High-Pressure Static Sealing for Flange Connections

Lycotek OD | Polyurethane (PU) | -40 °C to +100 °C | up to 500 kgf/cm²

flange seals

· Flange profile for high-pressure static sealing — polyurethane flange geometry rated to 500 kgf/cm², suited to valve blocks, end covers and hydraulic manifold flanges.

· Good wear and elastic recovery — PU combines abrasion resistance with elastic return, maintaining sealing force under pressure cycling.

· Industrial temperature coverage — operating range of -40 °C to +100 °C covers the majority of standard hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.

· Standard sizes for common flange dimensions — OD 42–169 mm and section heights 3.1–8 mm cover widely used flange specifications.

Typical applications

· High-pressure static sealing of hydraulic flange connections such as valve blocks, end covers and manifolds, rated up to 500 kgf/cm².

4.PTFE Back-Up Rings — Extrusion Protection for High-Pressure Rod Seals

Lycotek BB | Virgin PTFE | -55 °C to +200 °C | ID 30–340 mm

Back-up rings

· Prevents elastomer extrusion — installed beside the primary elastomer seal to block the extrusion gap under high pressure, large clearances or temperature cycling, extending seal life.

· Wide temperature and chemical range — PTFE operates from -55 °C to +200 °C and offers excellent chemical resistance and low-friction performance.

· Recommended for severe duty — back-up rings are advised when pressure exceeds ~5 MPa, clearances are large, temperatures fluctuate or the system is heavily contaminated.

· Broad size coverage — ID 30–340 mm and section heights 1.5–4 mm accommodate a wide range of rod diameters and groove widths.

Typical applications

· Extrusion protection for rod seals in heavy-duty hydraulic cylinders operating with high pressure, large clearances, temperature cycling or contaminated media.

· Installed alongside primary elastomer rod seals to extend service life under severe operating conditions.
